Nothing by default
Until you have answered the banner, or if you declined, the site sets no cookie and contacts no third-party domain. No audience measurement is loaded, and nothing described below applies.
That is the default state, and the site is fully functional in it: declining degrades nothing. Fonts are served from our own servers; there is no social button, no image and no script loaded from anywhere else.
Three preferences, which are not cookies
The site keeps three settings in your browser's local storage. They are not cookies: they are never sent to a server, serve no tracking purpose, and stay on your device until you clear the site's data.

If you accept audience measurement
We use Google Analytics 4 to know which pages are read, and by how many people. The script is loaded only after you accept, never before, and Google's consent mode is initialised to deny everything as soon as the page loads.
This measurement is used to improve the site. It is not used for advertising or targeting: there is no ad network on this site, no data is combined with an advertising profile, and nothing is passed to an advertiser.
As long as audience measurement is not enabled, the banner does not appear and no cookie can be set: asking permission to store something we do not store would make no sense.
The cookies set, if you accept
Two cookies, both set by Google Analytics. Their lifetime is brought down to thirteen months, the maximum recommended by the French data protection authority — without that setting, Google would set them for two years.

Changing your choice
A consent you cannot withdraw is not one. The first button reopens the banner: you can then accept or decline again. The second declines immediately, and erases the cookies already set.
Audience measurement is not enabled on this site: there is no choice to revisit, and no cookie to decline.
Browser settings
Your browser can also block or clear cookies site by site, in its privacy settings. A blanket block does not stop this site working; it only stops it remembering your answer to the banner, which you will therefore be asked again.
